Picuz Mountain and Saint Clement Church
Everywhere there are places not well known, so it’s our desire to popularise them as sites of scenic interest of our Insubria.
In this regard, we have dedicated the reference DRI I-006, our permanent and itinerant Regio Insubrica Award to Picuz Mountain (521 mt.) in Sangiano (Varese) and its summit with the church of Saint Clement (also referenced for Italian Abbeys Award LB-0656 which of course we include in our activity), where we enjoy breathtaking views of Varese Lake, the higher part of MaggioreLake and the town of Laveno.
The way to reach the summit is easy: in Sangiano (Va) we take the close and fraught street after the town hall where we find the signs for Saint Clement and the Balcony Picuz.
The path winds through the forest and is easily passable on foot after about km. 3,3 long.
The last stretch of 500 meters is closed to traffic, so it is desirable to leave the car in open space which is located on the right near two wells.
Reached the old church, dating from the thirteenth century, by the discovery of flint arrowheads and evidence of Roman would suggest pagan area, over time turned into a Christian church dedicated to Saint Clement Pope and Martyr.
So the appointment is set for the morning of Sunday, August 29, 2010 when from the panoramic churchyard of St. Clement we will launch our CQ to lead Mount Picuz around Italy and Europe.
